In August of 1955, following the success of the first Austin Healey, the 100 (BN1), the BN2 was launched, with upgrades to the original design including a stronger, 5 stud rear axle, larger front brakes and an eagerly anticipated, four speed with overdrive gearbox, replacing the original 100s three speed with overdrive unit.
Appearing on the cover of Sports Cars & Specials in (November 1956) this exact Austin Healey BN2 was used in a head to head comparison with a Triumph TR3. The very detailed Article written by Ian Fraser puts both car through their paces and after a short pro's & con's list concedes that even though the TR3 may have better economy, its the Austin Healey that looks better, has more performance, top end speed & better handling.
This much sought after, Melbourne Delivered (Austin Distributors Limited) BN2 was first registered as GLS-666 on the 21st of February 1956 on behalf of Mrs Vena Davie of Toorak. With known ownership tracing back GLS-666's full 61 year life this famous BN2 is truly to be admired.
Subject to a complete and comprehensive Healey Factory restoration, this BN2 is offered for sale in arguably one of the most sought after colour combinations, with is rich Reno Red paintwork and a lovely Magnolia interior, further complemented by a set of bright, 60 spoke, chrome wire wheels, this BN2 will draw all the right attention.
Mechanically, no expense was spared during the restoration, with the engine, gearbox, overdrive, brakes and suspension all rebuilt and restored to an extremely high standard Nothing was left untouched. On road the quality of restoration is exceedingly apparent, with ample power & smooth mechanical precision, providing a truly inspiring driving experience, from the standard, unaltered mechanicals.
With their stunning Gerry Coker designed body work, brought to life by their uprated mechanical package, and with a total production run of just 3924 cars (compared to the 10,668 BN1's) the BN2 Austin Healey 100 is fast becoming the Healey to own.
