The Ford Mustang is surely Ford's most iconic name having been born in 1964 and still going strong. The Mustang was conceived in 1962 by Lee Iacocca, Ford Divisions General Manager who delivered a very specific brief to its design team. The car must meet the following criteria: Be no more than 180 long, be no more than 2,500lbs (1100kg), be no more than $2,500 (in base form), have a low short boot & a long bonnet, carry 4 people, be available in a 6 cylinder & a V8 and most importantly be customisable to suit the buyers taste. The Ford Design Studio achieved their goal in record time with the release of the Mustang in March 1964.
Finished in Silver Blue with 14 Kelsey Hayes Styled Steel wheels, the Mustangs exterior is complemented by its Blue & White Pony Trim interior, featuring a deluxe steering wheel (imitation wood grain) and a RetroSound Model Two Bluetooth Radio in the Dash.
This 1966 Mustang hardtop has been converted to Right Hand Drive and comes with a Receipt File dating back to 2003 confirming mechanical work completed by the last two owners. The most recent owner purchased the Mustang from rural Victoria in 2017, with the odometer reading 10,580 miles at the time of roadworthy, some 8 years later, the Mustang has covered another ~12,000 miles.
Mechanically, the Mustang has been uprated with an MSD ignition system, including a Pro Billet distributor, Blaster SS coil and Streetfire lead set, Proflow Ignition box, a VH44 brake booster and a high torque starter motor, providing a flexible, smooth and tractable power unit, which in conjunction with power steering, deliver lovely period performance.
If you love the idea of an early Mustang hard top that drives well and still has that classic Mustang sound and feel, this will take you back in time to less busy days. The Mustang is equally at home out on the open road or maybe cruising through the hills to a restaurant or winery with family or friends. You may even use it as an alternate daily driver. The choice is yours.
