WELL TRAVELLED, RESTORED BJ8
The 3000 MkIII (BJ8) was the final evolution of Austin's Big Healey range, with their enduring style a testament to Donald Healey's vision, as the silhouette of the model changed very little from the original Austin Healey 100 of 1952. Over 12 years the interior trim level, cockpit fittings and weather equipment improved to meet growing market expectations. The power output of the MkIII's 6 cylinder engine was rated at 150 BHP, making it the most powerful of the entire range.
Originally finished in left hand drive, this 3000 MkIII made its way back home to the UK, where, in the early 2000s it was stripped down to a bare chassis for a concours, ground up restoration (with photographic records), at which time it was converted to right hand drive.
Imported into New Zealand some time later, the Healey was granted a Low Volume Vehicle Certification Plate in October 2006, where it would stay until its Australian Import Approval was granted in May 2018, destined for Bowral NSW.
Finished in Colorado Red, highlighted by sparkling chrome wire wheels and brilliant Brightwork, the interior presents smartly in classic black leather with a matching 15 leather Moto-Lita steering wheel. Equipment includes wind-up windows, an adjustable steering column, 'One-Touch' quality fabric convertible hood with a zip out rear window, a hood cover and an original Smiths heater allowing this BJ8 to be enjoyed all year round.
The only deviations from standard are a high mount third brake light, a badge bar adorned with badges & Lucas Flamethrower driving lights, the aforementioned Motolita steering wheel, a wooden gearknob, a Motorola period radio and an alloy fuel tank.
The BJ8 is a reliable, comfortable tourer with its long legged cruising ability, whilst still delivering great period performance, ideal for an exhilarating run through the hills or maybe just your morning coffee run. An iconic model of the Austin Healey marque that you can enjoy to the fullest.
