WELL PREPARED TARMAC RALLY COMPETITOR
Built by James Young Race Engines of Melbourne in 2003, this MkI Cortina has seen regular, and spirited use on the tarmac rally scene, with the race log books (CAMS & AASA) showing 12 events run between 2006 and 2024, including Targa Tasmania in both 2007 and 2017.
The detailed invoice history accompanying the Ford shows major expenditure with JY Race Engines for the initial build and maintenance up till November 2004, totalling near $50,000 (not including any bodywork), followed by PowerPlay who oversaw development and maintenance from February 2006 to September 2011, totalling near $60,000, before an engine rebuild by Moore Performance Cylinder Heads in March 2015.
A regular on the dyno under the watchful eye of the team at PowerPlay the Cortina consistently produced near 70kW as well as 158Nm of torque at the rear wheels, providing a superbly reliable Tarmac rally experience.
For improved stability on the long winding mountain runs, the Cortina is fitted with a heavy duty anti-roll bar, adjustable Koni shock absorbers, a heavy duty panhard rod and uprated brakes, featuring Mitsubishi 3000GT front ventilated discs, Volvo 4 piston front calipers and a rear disc conversion.
