HAND BUILT ALUMINIUM BODIED RACER
Built with the sole purpose of winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the XK120C was introduced featuring lightweight aluminium bodywork, draped over a tubular steel chassis, powered by the XK120s 3.4L DOHC inline six cylinder, tuned to produce 205bhp.
Victorious at both the 1951 and 1953 24 Hours of Le Mans, the C-Type was cemented into motorsport history, and provided the platform for both the D-Type and the E-Type to further bolster the Jaguar marque and their sporting prowess.
Started in 2002, Coventry Classics set out to produce tool room recreations of the famed Jaguar C-Type. Based out of Gore New Zealand (between Invercargil and Dunedin), a rural township of just 8,340 people, Coventry Classics would gain a reputation of superb craftsmanship and exacting accuracy.
However their business was put into jeopardy, when JLR (Jaguar Land Rover) sued a Swedish couple over their C-Type recreation. The suit would last years, finishing in March 2023 with the verdict ruling that the commercial production of C-Type recreations would breach JLRs copyright.
This Coventry Classics C-Type, #004 is one of their earliest creations, with records indicating that they had finished 26 builds (including the later released D-Type and lightweight E-Type recreations) by 2017.
Built to Tool Room Plus specification this C-Type has been uprated with the 3.4L XK engine replaced by the larger 3.8L variant (block sourced from a Mk IX & cylinder head from a S-Type) as well as the fitment of: Overdrive, Pertronix Flame Thrower electronic ignition, a large thermatic fan in front of the copper cored radiator and four wheel disc brakes (as per the 1953 specification).
Fully imported, with compliance (necessitating the fitment of a third brake light) this C-Type is currently club plated in Victoria (as a 1952 Jaguar) and has only travelled just ~1,200 miles (2,000 km) from new!
Priced without Reg, Talk to us about Reg, Club or Other Plate Options.
