LAST OF THE LINE CLASSIC BJ8
Produced Between June 1963 and March 1968, a Total of 17,712 Austin Healey 3000 MkIII's (BJ8s) were Built, with the final update of the Big Healey being the Phase III BJ8 introduced in April of 1965. The 1963 launch of the BJ8 saw the Interior Trim Updated to a More Luxurious Standard, with a Burr Walnut Veneer dash, Wind Up Windows, and a 'One Touch' Convertible Hood with Zip-Out Rear Window. The performance from the 150hp, 3 Litre, 6 Cylinder Engine was a Far Cry from the 90hp, 2.7, Litre 4 Cylinder Engine of the first Austin Healey, the 100 introduced in 1952, making the 3000MkIII the Most Powerful production Healey built.
This 1967 Austin Healey 3000 MkIII Phase III, finished in classic Colorado Red, was Delivered New by Harmon-Rowland Inc of Raleigh, North Carolina, to Margaret Horner on the 24th of August 1967. After Margaret bought her new Healey, it spent over 30 years on the roads of North Carolina, eventually coming to Australia in 2001, after a brief period living in Arlington, Virginia.
The Colorado Red bodywork, featuring a Louvered Bonnet secured by a period correct Leather Strap, is highlighted by Sparkling Chrome Wire Wheels and Contrasted by the Beige Leather interior, re-trimmed 15,000 miles ago, featuring a Derrington style wood rimmed steering wheel, the carpets protected by Austin Healey rubber floor mats, an optional heater for those lovely crisp, Autumnal Sunday morning runs and front Inertia Reel seat belts.
Under the bonnet this BJ8 is mostly standard apart from a few sensible upgrades to increase reliability and convenience, including a spin-off oil filter, a Texas Cooler Fan, an Alternator and a high flow air filter complimented by a classic style Ansa Sports Exhaust system to allow the Big Six to breathe well.
Accompanying the Healey is a thick file of receipts and what is believed to be full ownership history back to the USA BMC distributor, Hambro Inc, importing the Healey to New Jersey in 1967.
This 3000 MkIII will provide you superb classic fun, whether its quick run to your favourite coffee shop on a Saturday morning or a slightly longer adventure on a sunny Sunday or even a few days away along the coast. With this Healey, the choice is yours.
