Introduced in May 1964, the Phase II BJ8 (3000 MkIII) was the 2nd last Production 6 cylinder Austin Healey Update. The BJ8 Interior Trim was a More Luxurious Standard than previous with a Burr Walnut Veneer dash, Wind Up Windows, and a 'One Touch' Convertible Hood with Zip-Out Rear Window. The performance from the 150hp 3 Litre 6 Cylinder Engine was a Far Cry from the 90hp 2.6 Litre 4 Cylinder Engine of the first Austin Healey, the 100 introduced in 1952.
This 1964 3000 MkIII was built on the 2nd of November 1964 and despatched to San Francisco, USA, a few days later on the 10th of November. Now finished in Golden Beige with Contrasting Black Interior Trim, Painted Wire Wheels and Contrasting Brightwork. The Cockpit Interior is in Original style, with the Optional Smiths Heater, and now includes Rear Seat Belts, a Tall Stem Rear View Mirror and an Original Steering Wheel which has been Leather bound. The One Touch Hood is in Quality Black Fabric as is the Hood Cover whilst the Full Tonneau is in Black Vinyl.
This BJ8 was purchased as a Restoration Project from The Healey Factory in May 1999. The owner subsequently embarked on restoring the Healey over the next 8 years. A Receipt File accompanying the BJ8 confirms details of restoration expenses and various expenses since. The file also contains the Vehicle Import Approval as well as the Heritage Certificate confirming the Original Build Specifications.
A number of Reliability Improvements have been made including an Alternator, a Modern Hi-Torque Starter Motor and Scorcher Electronic Ignition for improved starting and running, a Texas Kooler Fan has been fitted for Improved Engine cooling, the Cooling System is protected with a Tefba Coolant Filter, while a Ceramic Coated Exhaust Manifold helps reduce under bonnet temperatures, Engine Servicing is improved with the Spin-On Oil Filter Conversion. The engine is also fitted with a pair of Ram Flo Air Filters and a ProRace Harmonic Balancer to smooth out any unwanted harmonics.
