HOME RESTORED TO HIGH SPECIFICATION
Released in 1958 to rave reviews, the all new, Austin Healey Sprite was an immediate success, with its spritely performance and precise handling, selling 48,987 units in their 3 year production run.
Still retaining its highly desirable, original factory steel bonnet this MkI Sprite was built in RHD on 5-6 July 1960 for the Home Market and delivered by Lathams Limited of Leicester UK. The most recent custodian purchased the Bugeye as a project, disassembled in 2015, compete with a 1275cc Sprite reconditioned engine with new pistons, rings and bearings, by The Bugeye Barn.
The Bugeye presents well, now finished in Mazda Gargenia White (orginally Old English White) after being stripped to bare metal, riding on widened chrome wheels with hubcaps, complemented by Red leather seats with White piping and Black carpets. The interior features a period style Moto-Lita wood-rimmed sports steering wheel & handy 12 volt USB outlet, while the weather equipment, consisting of a the soft top hood and tonneau cover are both finished in Black vinyl.
Fitted with the highly desirable 1275cc A-series engine the Sprite also features sensible upgrades including a 45DCOE Weber carburettor, MkIII Sprite Front Disc Brakes & rear brakes, heavy-duty axles, a front anti-roll bar, a Maniflow extractor exhaust system, an alternator, 6-blade cooling fan and spin-on oil filter to ensure that the engine runs sweetly, stops & handles well and most importantly runs reliably.
The little Bugeye is accompanied by a heritage certificate and invoices dating back to 1976. Due to its diminutive size, weight and appropriate, uprated period performance, this British sports car is superb fun to drive, and is ready to be regularly used on club events, touring the countryside and exploring the local hills.
