FACTORY RIGHT HAND DRIVE, LESS THAN 1%!
The 3000 MkIII (BJ8) was the final evolution of Austin's Big Healey range, with their enduring style a testament to Donald Healey's vision, as the silhouette of the model changed very little from the original Austin Healey 100 of 1952. Over 12 years the interior trim level, cockpit fittings and weather equipment improved to meet growing market expectations. The power output of the MkIII's 6 cylinder engine was rated at 150 bhp, making it the most powerful of the range.
Due to the incredibly strong North American markets demand, only 1,237 of the MkIIIs total production (17,712) were built in Right Hand Drive, when combined with shortest Phase production run (1,390) this leaves just a total of 115 RHD Phase I BJ8s built, with this MkIII representing just ~0.6% of total production!
Built between the 18th and 26th of March 1964, and was sold by Carlaw Cars Limited of Glasgow, Scotland, optioned with wire wheels, a heater, an adjustable steering column and overdrive. Accompanying the Healey is a well organised history file, containing a listing previous ownership, its original UK Registration book (covering 1964 to 1972), BMIHT Heritage Certificate, Import Approval and mechanical receipts.
The BJ8 was imported into Western Australia in November 2001 and presents in its original Ivory White, with Black, highlighted by sparkling chrome wire wheels, an Aston filler and brilliant brightwork. The interior presents smartly, in classic White piped Black, accompanied by the 8-Track sound system and a period 16 wood rimmed steering wheel. Equipment such as wind-up windows, 'One-Touch' black vinyl convertible hood with a zip out rear window and an original Smiths Heater make this BJ8 an ideal classic to be enjoyed all year round.
In addition to the standard mechanical configuration, the BJ8 benefits from, 123 electronic ignition and a spin-on oil filter conversion, together improving the reliability of this rare Healey. The BJ8 has the classic Big Healey feel, with its lusty 3 Litre 6 cylinder engine coupled to the 4 speed gearbox with overdrive, providing spirited performance as well as effortless long legged cruising.
