Produced between 2004 and 2013, the first generation 1 Series replaced the 3 Series compact as the entry level BMW, initially only offered in a 5 door hatchback (E87), with the 3 door hatchback (E81) following in May 2007, before the Coupe (E82) and Convertible (E88) finalised the lineup in November 2007.
