MULTIPLE CONCOURS WINNING MINERAL BLUE C
Conceived as a replacement for the Austin Healey 3000, designed around the proven body and chassis of the MG B, with an BMC C-Series 6 cylinder engine for extra performance, the new model was to be sold under both the MG and Austin Healey nameplates.
As development went along, plans where changed slightly, after the Austin Healey 6 cylinder was found to be too tall for the MG bodywork. The redesigned unit finished up with the same capacity (2912cc), 7 main bearings, 1 3/4 shorter in height, and weighing 44lbs less than the previous Austin engine. Production ran from 1967 until 1969, in which time a total of just 4,542 MGC Roadsters were built, cementing the MGCs rarity and desirablity.
This factory right hand drive MG C was originally built to Home Market specifications in June 1968 as a Personal Export Delivery. It is finished in its original colour of Mineral Blue with Black trim featuring leather seats and pale blue piping and is equipped with a pack-away black vinyl hood & tonneau, chrome wire wheels, a manual overdrive gearbox, and heater as per its original build specification.
Supported by an extensive history file, with receipts dating to 1987, the Roadsters restoration is well documented. Key invoices include: the body and paint work completed by Gisborne Smash Repair in 2016, the gearbox rebuild by TD Automotive in 2009 (including a new clutch kit) and the engine rebuild by Plus Four Automotive in 1995.
Entering the Victorian MG concours scene in 2020, the MG C won its class in 2020, 2021, 2022 & 2023, while also taking 2nd in the Classic Car Group in 2020, before winning the group in 2021, 2022 & 2023, after such it was raised into the 2024 Master Class, where it won the Merrit Award.
The drive of this MGC is bound to delight, the performance increase of 53% more horse power, and 55% More Torque relative to the MGB's 1798cc engine is instantly evident, with the strength to pull out of corners under acceleration with far fewer revs, while providing longer legs in the gears themselves these MGC's really do perform with the glorious smoothness of a 7 bearing 6 cylinder engine.
