THE ORIGINAL Z CAR, FRESHLY ENGINEERED
Although Datsun had produced sports cars prior to the Z, the Fairlady and 2000 Sports, it was the 240Z that became the largest selling sports car of the 70s with ~168,000 units produced. With its perfect proportions, strong mechanicals and excellent engineering, it was used both in Circuit Racing and International Rallies with considerable success.
This 240Z was sold new into by Camino Datsun Sales of Sunnyvale California on the 3rd of April 1973, and is noted as having just 2 American (Californian) owners before its importation into Australia in early 2019. Since arriving the 240Z was placed into a collection of cars until 2025, when engineering and ADR compliancing started and is now ready for registration and road use.
The Blue Metallic paint highlighted with White racing stripes presents well and accents the original Beige and Black interior, featuring the original faux wood rimmed steering wheel (protected by a vinyl wrap). A lovely addition to the cabin are the glovebox lid signatures of: Yutaka Katayama also known as Mr. K (Nissan USAs first president & the Father of the Z-Car), Pete Brock (designer of the Shelby Daytona and Director of design and motor racing team Brock Racing Enterprises), John Morton (Datsun BRE Race Driver in the SCCA Nation Championship) and Bob Bondurant (Formula & 24 Hours of Le Mans race driver who ran a driving school sponsored by Datsun)
Retaining its original L24 Inline 6 cylinder, paperwork notes a fresh rebuild before the 240Zs sale into Australia, carried out by Troy Buck of Antelope Valley California consisting of: main & rod bearings, piston rings, timing chain/guide/tensioner, oil pump, water pump and a rebuilt cylinder head (by Adams Metallizing of Lancaster California). It is also noted that earlier, better performing Hitachi carburettors have been fitted alongside a 280ZX close ratio 5 speed gearbox, with a lightweight flywheel.
With excellent period performance and handling this 240Z is an aural delight, with its 6 into 1 exhaust headers and glorious induction it is sure to encourage you to get out and explore! Offered at a significant discount to the Australian delivered examples, this left hand drive 240Z provides and opportunity to own a Japanese motoring icon at a substantial discount, without compromising quality or performance.
