THREE OWNER RARE A COUPE
Launched in 1955 the MGA is undoubtedly one of MGs prettiest cars, and was able to take MG's sporting range into a new era, following the T Series with their pre-war inspired Running Board styling. Based on a newly designed massively rigid chassis fitted with TF suspension and steering, the 1600 benefits from a slightly larger engine claimed to produce 79.5 bhp to enhance driving pleasure and performance and front disc brakes for peace of mind.
From the total MGA production run of 101,081, just 9,922 MGA Coupes were built. This 1600 MkI Coupe, is one of 826 Left Hand Drive North American Export models from 1960, built on 14-15 March. The Heritage Certificate confirms its original colour scheme of Dove Grey with contrasting Red interior.
The MkI Coupe remained with its first owner in Texas for 35 years before being shipped to its second owner in 1995, in South Bunbury, Western Australia who completed a Restoration and conversion to Right Hand Drive by 1998. After 25 years, the A Coupe changed hands to its third custodian in March 2020 when it was shipped to Victoria.
Presenting in its original colour scheme, riding on 15 wire wheels, this 1600 Coupe has fantastic eye appeal. The re-trimmed cabin features the optional Smiths heater, a period wood-rimmed Moto-Lita Steering Wheel, Sony 3-speaker CD Tuner with Aux Input, a 12-volt adaptor under the dash and rubber floor mats.
The lovely brightwork includes the external re-vision mirrors, Lucas Fog Lamps and Factory Luggage Rack. Original items include the Tool Roll and Jack, whilst a Trickle Charger has been added providing the convenience of charging when the Coupe has not been used for an extended period.
The 1600 Coupe is a delight to drive with adequate power, precise handling and direct steering and is now ready for its fourth custodian to enjoy.
